Back in the saddle

We are back in the saddle again-- after a three week break. It felt nice to be on our bike again. We rode from Rocheport to McBaine.

It's one of my favorite rides-- meandering along the Missouri River, wetlands, and bluffs.

I made Josh stop and take a picture next to the Terrapin Creek-- after all, he is the Hungry Terrapin on Twitter.

I spent a good amount of time trying to photograph my shawl.

This photo doesn't even do this place justice. It's so beautiful. I am vlogging a bit on Snapchat. If you want to add me, I'm Whereverweland.

It was nice to ride again-- but I am pretty sore!

Josh and Jen's Epic Road Trip to Kansas City

Josh decided to take me yarn shopping on Saturday and to make a long story short, the only yarn shop I really want to go to is A Grand Yarn in Arrow Rock, Missouri.

It was our second trip to Arrow Rock and we didn't make in time to eat there, so we decided to travel to Kansas City to some barbecue. I have never been to Kansas-- the state, so we chose to check out a barbecue place called Brobecks in Overland Park, Kansas.

It was decent, not the best we have ever had, but it did have an old school feel to it and the waitress was super nice.

The corn fritters were tasty, especially after you let cool for awhile. (The left over heat up well the next day.)

Their Macaroni and cheese was melt in your mouth yummy! It makes me really happy to eat a good macaroni and cheese.

Afterwards I was on a mission to get my You are Here Starbucks mug from Kansas City.  Mission accomplished. Starbucks was within walking distance to Whole Foods, so let's just say that I had a wonderful day-- but that doesn't even begin to cover it.

WE WERE ONLY 9 MILES AWAY IKEA!

I have to say--- and this might be super gushing-- I am completely in love with Ikea and would pack up my bags and live inside of it, if I could. I love modern European cheap furniture--- and I cannot wait until Joshua gets his postdoc so that I can have a little Ikea furniture.

I think we spent like 2 hours there walking around and trying out furniture. I left with some candles, and kitchen stuff, but no furniture. I'm waiting until we land for that.

Yes, I  had a great little road trip. Yarn, barbecue, and Ikea. It was a nice departure from our normal nature stuff.

Little Dixie

Another evening well spent at Little Dixie Lake. Josh and I get in a routine and tend to do the same thing over and over again. For Josh, it's fishing. He's really good at it and manages to catch fish even when they aren't biting-- for the most part. Me? I knit and I have really been excited about it it alot lately. I even started a little blog called Wherever We Land Knits.

Here we are waiting. Waiting for Joshua to graduate and find a post doc. Waiting for us to find out where we move. Waiting for life to happen, when it's really happening right in front of us. I hope that we take the time to savor beautiful evenings like this-- wherever we land.

Little Dixie Fly Fishing

Joshua took up fly fishing this year. He wanted to learn a new technique for when he starts his flat fishing endeavor in the Florida Keys--- hopefully soon!

He's pretty good at it. Although he says that I should watch some people that actually know what there doing. I think he look pretty good and if you catch a fish, don't you know what you are doing?

Life always allows room for improvement--- you don't usually start off know how to do something. I think he caught on pretty quickly and it's really fun to watch him while I knit away.

And this view.....

Do you see a trend here? August 12 and 15 Little Dixie

\

Do you see a trend here? Knit. Fish, Repeat.  I'm combining two trip here! Josh had a birthday last week and when it's his birthday, he wants to fish- for weeks. No complaints here!

I'll say it again. Little Dixie Conservation area has the best sunset in Mid-Missouri. Hands down.

You will probably see a million more where that came from.

Joshua had a rather productive fishing night-both nights. I can remember when it was hard to get anything to bite. Not anymore-- even though that bass seemed way bigger on the hook.

Bananas where prevalent and I somehow felt like I needed to take a picture of it.

And my feet. It was relaxing for sure. It was another great  couple of nights at Little Dixie.

Happy Birthday Weekend to Josh

It was Josh's birthday weekend and he decided to check out Busch Wildlife nature preserve. We are from that area, but haven't been in a long time!

Side note- if you don't post your birthday on Facebook lots of people forget. That's okay--- we still fished it up. By fished it up, he caught nothing, but we sure did enjoy our day soaking up the sun.

We also made a stop to our favorite coffee  shop-- Picassos. We used to be regulars there and no coffee shop has felt like home since.

We made a stop to Applebee's on our way home and did a little grocery shopping. I know, living the life. I would say that Josh has a pretty decent birthday all in all. A beach is about the only thing that would make it better.

Little Dixie

I had been sick for a few days, but I started feeling better Friday night, so we headed to little Dixie Convervation Area for some fishing.

The lakefront was a bit overgrown, but Little Dixie Lake is always a beautiful sight.

They keep the paths maintained and it's easy to meander for around looking at all of the wild flowers and the lake.

I sat and knit while Josh caught two bluegill and  a crappie.

We stayed so long that we got to glimpse the blue moon. It wouldn't photograph on an iPhone though, but I did get a snap chat. Follow me, Keepitsimplejen.
